Aflas O rings
AFLAS is the tradename for a unique fluoroelastomer based upon an alternating copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and propylene ( TFE/P ). The elastomer, when properly formulated, can be used to fabricate o-rings, gaskets, seals, packings, and coatings possessing several unique properties:
excellent heat resistance with continuous service temperature capability of 230°C,
chemical resistance including resistance to strong acids and bases,
high electrical resistivity, and
excellent oil resistance.
AFLAS based seals are widely used throughout many industries: oil and gas, food processing, nuclear power generation and other thermal power, ocean development, chemical processing, automotive, heavy-duty diesels, electronics, machinery, fluid controls, steam generation and control.
Description: Excellent resistance to acids, bases, water and amines. Widely used in oil fields.
Limitations: Avoid polar solvents and aromatic fuels. Compression set performance may
be too high for some applications.
Chemistry: Copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and propylene.
Temperature Range: –10° to 200°C (14° to 400°F)
A unique fluoroelastomer based on a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) and propylene (P) was developed by Asahi Glass (Japan) and sold under the AFLAS trade name. TFE/P polymers exhibit improved chemical resistance to base and amine chemical environments compared to traditional FKM polymers.
Typical Uses: Oil Fields, Coater/Developer, Resist Stripping, CMP, Cleaning
